Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”.- Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Monday January 15th, 2024 will mark the 41st anniversary of MLK Day. A federal holiday established to celebrate, honor and serve as a reminder of the efforts and mission of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dr. King dedicated his life in the fight for justice and equality for African-Americans. His words and beliefs are as relevant today as they were during the fight for Civil Rights of the 1960’s.
The public library is the perfect embodiment of Dr. King’s vison of an environment where everyone is welcomed, accepted, and treated with respect, regardless of the color of their skin, ethnicity, race, gender or beliefs. The public library serves as both a safe pace and a pillar of the community, in which we all can coexist as one.
Here at the Lower Macungie Library, we strive to uphold these values, not only on a special day such as MLK day, but every day. We want to thank and encourage our patrons and our community for their continued support and contributing efforts in helping the library be a place of learning, fun and acceptance.

Attend our free movie matinee with FREE popcorn to celebrate Elvis Presley’s birthday month and National Popcorn Day!
A thoroughly cinematic drama, Elvis’s story is seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker. As told by Parker, the film delves into the complex dynamic between the two, spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley.
Join our friends from Zoellner Arts Center for a fun dinosaur-themed storytime. They’ll be sharing a story or two plus a super fun activity. This event showcases a little of the fun available at their February production of “Earth’s Dinosaur Zoo.” Visit their website for more information or tickets to the production.
Registration is suggested for this event. Reserve your space today!
